Spicy and Sweet - 5a, Nutrition and Health

One of the highlights of this year’s vivid English classes was the Topic ‘Health and Nutrition’. It triggered our creativity and enthusiasm.

When discussing healthy school meals and following Jamie Oliver’s projects, we decided to look at some English cook books and find interesting recipes. Surprisingly, we really got into it. People could not get their eyes off the cook books provided by their teacher.

Somebody suggested to try some of the recipes out in real. A word and a blow! We chose easy and fast recipes for sandwiches to be made in class and enjoyed in the school yard.
So, we organised who would bring what and got started about a week later.

It was good fun to produce the healthy and unusual sandwiches in class, using different vegetables, cheeses, salmon etc. We also made sweet ricotta, chocolate and banana sandwiches. Yummy! All of them were toasted, so they were warm.

While preparing, we repeated lots of vocabulary and learnt new words, too. However, the big highlight of the day came, when we all set off with our picnic rugs. As it was a warm and sunny April day, we gathered round the school pond, laid out our delicious sandwiches and enjoyed a good chat with delicious food.

What a feast! Well cooked, dear 5a
