Steyr putzt - 6a Made a Difference

During their English classes, 6A worked on the topic ‘Making a Difference’ discussing social aspects, volunteering, and supporting the needy. Previously, they had been dealing with the big environmental issue.

Thus, it came in quite natural to really take action and actively get involved in a project. At the same time, ‘Steyr putzt’ week was coming up. The people of Steyr are invited to join in and do an area clean-up collecting garbage from hard shoulders, parks, river banks etc.

This seemed a brilliant way to contribute to the community. The city of Steyr perfectly organises the week, providing participants with all necessary gear. We got everything delivered in advance. So on the day, April 20th 2018, we set off with our jackets, gloves, bin bags and pickers to search our school building, the school grounds, and the surrounding area.

Of course, we spoke English while collecting, which created some funny situations, discussions and surprised smiles from and with passers-by.
Finally, we were flabbergasted by the load we carried back to the school. We had found all kinds of things, for example bottles, broken glass, a heel, and two folding chairs.

And the moral of the story: This was an extremely interesting and valuable experience. We definitely are much more conscious about keeping our areas and our country tidy now. Additionally, we have got a great memorable group experience!
